21 Day Sugar Detox
Courage. What a powerful word. What does it even mean to have courage? Obviously there are many different situations where it is appropriate and required. Lets keep this to “everyday life” rather than what is needed on the battlefield or in situations where ones life is in danger.
Today I had to do a 1-mile run for time. Now, for most people, that would sound like nothing much and they can do it with their eyes closed and without even breaking a sweat. Running is a weakness of mine, for me it's not only physically hard but also mentally tough. It doesn’t matter how short or long the distance. I feel defeated even before I start. So today I had to face that weakness – I had a few options: fail to do the run, do the run with no enthusiasm (may as well not do it), or give it my best shot. I chose to give it my best even though I wanted to stop each minute of the 11 minutes it took me to complete. And that took courage. And now I am really proud of myself. I have broken a barrier that I have allowed in the past to prevent me from growing and getting better, I let the fear hold me back. Not today, today courage prevailed.
Sure this may sound insignificant in the world where courage is required in all sorts of situations. But for me, in my life and my world, it is a big deal. And I grew stronger physically and mentally for taking that step and completing something that was difficult for me to do. In order to change ourselves we have to constantly challenge ourselves – and that takes courage.
How have you challenged yourself today? Where did you display courage today? – look closely – I am sure you will find a situation that you may have overlooked where you had to be courageous. Acknowledge that and be proud of yourself.
